Happy Birthday Nelson Bedpost!

After its first year, Bedpost Nelson has already proven itself to be a new favourite for locals in search of a great night’s sleep.

Owner Elliot Earp says since first opening its doors in mid November, 2016, more and more people had discovered Bedpost’s different approach to selling beds, mattresses, pillows and bedroom furniture – and considering the competition in the area, that was a good accomplishment for the first 12 months.

“Our main focus has been out service because there’s 10 different places where you can buy a brand new bed in Nelson – and that’s a lot of competition for a very small population,” Elliot said.

“So what we’ve tried to do is establish ourselves as the best by having the best products at the best price and with the best service.”

Bedpost has long prided itself on its excellent customer service via product knowledge, encouraging customers to find the perfect fit by “sleep testing” our range, offering a great delivery service and understanding both the value and the price of what we have on offer, but Elliot has added to that by “going the extra” mile to meet customers’ unique needs.

“We drive out to Golden Bay regularly to do deliveries and if I’m asked by a customer to do a customised job then I’ll do the delivery myself – especially if they want something modified,” he said. “For example on one occasion I was asked if I could cut a frame in half and I’ve also bolted a headboard on to the edge of a base – and I was happy to do that for them.”

The highlight of the past year was undoubtedly Nelson’s three-day Home and Garden show at the end of September when around 10,000 people flooded through Saxton Stadium and Bedpost had a big presence among the 180 exhibitors.

“More people saw us then than in six months,” Elliot said. “Having 10,000 people walk past is about a quarter of the adult population of Nelson so it was a really good event to get us out there. The reaction was good and we had some specials for the show and made some sales – but the main thing was that it was a big community event.”

After years of experience running Bedpost stores around the country, Elliot knew that bringing a Bedpost Nelson team to this rapidly growing part of the country would help new arrivals and long-time locals find the perfect bed for their new builds, renovations or existing homes.
The large 500sq m Bedpost store is well laid out in a plumb spot right in the centre of town and provides the first opportunity in the city to view everything from pine to New Zealand solid rimu frames and furniture, and great quality beds and mattress brands such as East West design, Sealy Posturepedic, Tempur, SleepMaker, Soundasleep and Beautyrest.

And the feedback has already been positive from happy customers.

“It always takes a while for any new business to get established but it’s definitely been a positive first year,” Elliot said. “Word of mouth has already been good for us an we’ve had lots of referrals and people already buying their second beds from us.”
