The Lazy Person’s Guide to a Bedroom Glow-Up

Want your bedroom to look 100x better without doing much? You’re in the right place. This bedroom glow up guide is for people who want results, less the sanding, painting, and mood boards. If you can lift a pillow and screw in a lightbulb, you’ve got this!

One of the easiest ways to level up your room? Start with the bed. Especially if you’re still sleeping on a single bed or family heirloom. You spend a third of your life in bed. So, you may as well make it decent.

At Bedpost, we've been in the sleep game for over 30 years. So we know what we’re talking about. In this article, you’ll find six very lazy, very doable ways to make your bedroom look (and feel) so much better. We also explain why a queen bed should be at the top of your shopping list.

1. Upgrade Your Bed

Your bed takes up the most space in your room. If it looks tired, the whole room feels tired. You don’t need to replace everything to experience a bedroom revolution. You just need to fix the one thing that matters most. If your current bed is too small, too low, or just looking sad, it’s probably time for a new one.

Queen Size Bed: Why It Just Works

Queen beds offer that perfect middle ground. They're big enough to feel spacious, but not so massive that they take over the space. That’s why they're the go-to for so many people, especially those that are sharing a bed, but still want a good night's sleep.

A queen bed gives you space to move without elbowing your partner in the ribs every night. And if you sleep solo? Even better. You can starfish, roll around, and still have space left over. A queen size bed also just looks better. You don’t need a huge room to fit a queen bed either. As long as you’ve got ample space to walk around it and open your drawers, you’re sweet.

2. Do the 10-Minute Declutter

Don't worry, you don't need to go full Marie Kondo here. Just look around and clear off whatever doesn’t need to be there. Start with your bedside table. One glass of water, fine. Four glasses, and a dead phone charger? Put it away, chuck it, or at least hide it.

Same goes for your drawers and the floor. Put the clothes away. Neaten up all the loose cables. You’ll feel better instantly. Less mess = better sleep. Lazy tip: grab a basket. Throw everything in. Sort it later.

3. Fix Your Lighting

Overhead lights are harsh. If that’s your only light, it’s probably making your room feel flat. Get a lamp or fairy lights. Or even a plug-in wall light. It doesn’t really matter what you choose. Just make sure it’s warm, not cold. Swap your bulb if it’s too white. Go for soft and yellow-ish.

In your bedroom, you want light that says 'time to relax,' not 'dentist waiting room.'

4. Add One Grown-Up Thing

You don’t need to turn your room into a magazine spread. Just add one thing that indicates that the space belongs to an adult. That could be a real plant that’s not dying. A rug that actually fits the space. Maybe some art that didn’t come rolled up in a tube. Even a good candle (but not one of those sweet fake-marshmallow-smelling ones) can do the trick.

Just pick one thing. That’s it. The goal here isn’t perfection. You just want your room to feel slightly more put together than it did yesterday.

5. Pick a Vibe (and Stick to It)

This one’s about vibes. Right now, your room might have a little bit of everything. A colour scheme from nowhere and cushions that don’t know each other.

Pick a mood. Calm. Warm. Beachy. Moody. Doesn’t matter. Just choose one and stick to it! If something doesn’t fit the mood, hide it. Or replace it when you can. Group stuff by colour or feel and suddenly it looks like you had a plan.

6. Swap Out Your Sheets

This one’s criminally easy. Get one set of good sheets. Just one. That’s it. And preferably in a solid colour that doesn’t make your eyes twitch. Go for cotton or linen if you can because they feel better, and they last longer. And neutrals are easiest. They match anything and always look a bit more pulled together.

No cartoon prints. No old flannel with holes in it. One decent set makes the whole bedroom look more inviting, even if it's the only thing in the room that has changed.

Your Bedroom Glow Up Starts Here

You don’t need to paint a wall or learn how to drill holes. You just need to do a few small things that make a big difference. Start with the bed. Clear the junk. Sort your lights. The result? A space that feels like somewhere you actually want to be to wind down at the end of each day.
